Are you an excellent coordinator with a desire to make a difference to young people?

Do you want to support the founding of a new school?

Do you love variety in your work?

If the answers are yes, we would love to hear from you!

About the role:

Surrey Maths School (SuMS) is currently in its pre-opening phase and is due to open its doors for the first cohort of students in September 2024. SuMS will be an inclusive specialist school for students with an aptitude and passion for mathematics. Developed in partnership between the University of Surrey (UoS) and Learning Partners Academy Trust, SuMS will be a regional specialist school based in Guildford, for 200 highly talented 16 to 19-year-old students drawn from across Surrey and beyond.

It is expected that the scope of the role will develop and adapt as the school moves from the pre-opening phase to admitting its first cohort of students and as the capacity and number of teaching and non-teaching of staff grows.

During the pre-opening phase, this role will require the postholder to:

·        Develop processes to support student recruitment and overseeing the Admissions Process

·        Provide administrative support for the Maths School Lead and Heads of School as they develop policies, procedures and the curriculum

·        Support the recruitment process for the appointment of other teaching and non-teaching staff

·        Support the development and delivery of the pre-opening outreach programme

·        Support the marketing and publicity around the school

·        Be an ambassador for the school

Once the school is open, the postholder will:

·        Develop student recruitment and overseeing the Admissions Process

·        Support the day-to-day running of the school and its administration

·        Support the development and delivery of the annual outreach programme

This post is an exceptionally exciting opportunity for an individual who is highly organised, enjoys multi-tasking and working across a wide range of functions. You don’t need to have any in depth maths knowledge, just a passion for making a difference to young people’s lives. You will have excellent organisational and time-management skills and the ability to prioritise your workload to ensure that deadlines are met, as well as to work autonomously and take initiative. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also essential requirements.

What we can offer you:

·        A professional and supportive team

·        A modern riverside location within Guildford town centre

·        Training and development – opportunities to take part in a range of training events and ongoing professional development

·        Family friendly employer – working within a team which understands that operational needs can be balanced with family responsibilities

·        Employee assistance programme – free and confidential third-party telephone counselling service available 24 hours a day

·        Pension scheme – Local Government Pension Scheme where the employer’s contribution is over 18% of base salary

·        Employee benefits scheme – high street discounts and cycle to work scheme

Terms:

We are very open to discussing the hours, working weeks and working pattern and are happy to offer the role on either a full-time or part-time basis. During the pre-opening phase we anticipate that you will need to be able to work at least 18 hours per week during the term time plus up to 3 additional weeks during the school holiday period. Once the school is open (September 2024) we anticipate that your working hours will need to increase to at least 28 hours per week.

You will need to have the flexibility to occasionally adjust your working pattern according to the needs of the school. There will be certain times of the year where your presence is required to administer Maths School activities which occur during school holiday periods.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss this unique role further, please contact Andrew Roach, Surrey Maths School Lead; aroach@learningpartners.org.
